Ok, so I'm looking at some cams that'll really beef up my truck's 390, and I came across these, COMP Cams: Magnum, 308R <br> Ultimate Street Cam, Radical Idle
I was wondering much it would to put in my truck with upgrades I'd have to do, and how much more power I should expect. If it's the power's not worth it, then could someone point out some cams that kick some ***?
Thanks guys!
That is a radical RACE only cam. The idle characteristics in a small 390 would be unbearable. The cam is more for 500+ cubic inch FE beasts with 13:1 compression that rev to 7 grand. Not to mention a mega valvetrain to take the seat and open pressures that the cam requires.
What head, intake and carb choices are you looking at?
What is the intended usage? Not just "I want to kick some ***"
Bullit390 is correct. HP and torq are inverse. I shoot for the middle, but it all comes at a cost. mostly money..LOL AS far a high RPM HP, lot's of gas and air, with super strong components is the basic's. You have to match the intake of fuel, with the burning of fuel, with the exhaust of fuel as a complete system. That's the basic's. Two much fuel\air in for an example, is just a waste, like that cam you asked about used in a stock 390. It will cause your stock engine to run worse. Low vacuum is your first problem.
