And one final question, the previous owner said he had a new clutch put in and it was 1 year old, the problem I have is that when it is shifted into reverse it grinds and sometimes pops out? Any sugestions?

If not, do a google search there is a math equation that goes along the lines of mark the tire, roll forward until it hits the ground so many times, then divide by the overall height of the tire, then..., then...=gear ratio.
Un-experience and un-educated in transmissions, but my first random guess is you need to replace the reverse synchronizer.
I think the fuel selector has been covered here, in the main section towards the upper right, select the search option and enter fuel switch then have fun reading through until you find some test procedures.
