Question Diesel or Gas?

If you were getting a new truck, would you want a diesel or gas engine? What are your opinions on this?

Diesel or Gas?

Wow, thats a can of worms. Id buy the gas because
1. I dont like the smell of oil burners.
2. The extra couple mpg doesnt pay for the several thousand dollar upfront cost of the oil burner.
3. I dont normally tow heavy loads.
4. Maintenance on the oil burner is more expensive
5. I dont like the sound of an oil burner

There are good reasons to buy one, but not for me.

Diesel or Gas?

I like the Diesel's.

Dependability, durability and I like the way it sounds.

Diesel or Gas?

I would buy the deisel, but that is because I put on alot of miles on a vehicle in a year and the savings would justify it.

I read on an article once, not sure what magazine, and it said that if you drive 20,000miles a year, it would take about 5 years for the deisel to pay for the difference in price (New).

As for the sound, I am already awake, the noise only wakes up the neighbors.

Diesel or Gas?

If I did not have any concern for money, I would go for the diesel. I tow a lot and get 8-9 mpg unless I am in hills. I hear a diesel will get maybe 15mpg under similar conditions. Just not having to stop for gas every few hundred miles would be nice. The savings in gas would be too.

I also hear that diesles have good low end torque and can get a trailer moving better than a gas.

The miles I drive probably mean that it would take me twenty years to pay for the price difference so I guess I stick with my gas 460.

Diesel or Gas?

Depends on what the intended useage will be. If you plan on just running up and down the hiway and put 100,000 miles on and trade it in, you can't justify the cost and expense of the diesel. If it is a commercial vehicle or you have a load to pull and you plan on driving it 200,000 miles, you can't afford the expense of the gas motor. Diesels are great for the long haul and doing work, otherwise, gas is the best option.

Diesel or Gas?

Diesel, hands down. Most of my tractors are all diesel, so I'd have fuel on hand. Power for towing my cattle trailer and mileage would be worth it in the long run. But I really can't complain about my current gasser... it gets the job done handily, and it's paid for.

Arent there huge fines for running farm fuel in your licensed rigs? Here its a different color, and you can get in big trouble.
