That I can do. There will be lots of pics because I am resurecting the truck with parts I get out of the scrap yard here at work. Of course the rebuild on the tranny is new but so far that is the only new part on her.
I am worried, my uncle has rebuilt a few but he looks at me dead faced and says...."I'll help, but I'd rather rebuild an engine out of a mercedes as to tear into a transmission...."

I'd be glad to do a step by step on a C6 rebuild if I were rebuilding one. My gasser C6 isn't too hot but not sure I'll be rebuilding it any time soon. But if my diesel C6 turns out weak (*supposed* to only have 20k on it) I'll be in for a rebuild myself! Hopefully I'll know in 3 or 4 weeks.

it takes some time and patience but it can be done of course.
(nope.i wouldn't want to do it again today.)
good luck.
really, that's the most essential thing you need right there.a good exploded view.and don't let that discourage you.you will see as you go,that you will be working on a section at a time.taking your time, you can figure it out,and follow your nose.
a step by step write up would take almost as long as just doing it lol.there would be key points to make here and there, but that's about it.its hell.but it's not hell all at once.just small groups of hell that you combine lmao.you'll see.

and........something we didn't have back then.....the internet.
i figured someone would do a write up.
here's one:
FullSizeBronco.com - 78 - 96 Ford Bronco offroad club, forums, tech, installs
and for the love of god, don't mistakenly rebuild a gas C6 for your diesel,as it won't bolt up.
you need in depth manuals for the diesel c6 of course and some good trans tools.
at least get some nice snap ring pliers and of course a couple torque wrenches.
huge clean work bench, with spotless clean surroundings too.
also keep in mind, those are likely exploded view of gas c6.just an idea of what your getting into is all.

Yeah rebuilding a gasser to put in a diesel would be a big boo-boo lol
If I rebuilt my own I'd be pretty tempted to try out a 6 pinion lowered gear forward planetary. I think it's close to the same ratio as used on the E4OD. Gives you a 10% lower 1st and 5% lowered 2nd with same 1:1 3rd. I've got a 2wd Diesel I'd probably consider rebuilding like that over next summer if I had a 4WD output shaft for it.

with todays fuel prices,i don't see why anyone would start with a c6.
the E40D not only has OD but a locking torque converter.
it may cost more to rebuild and to swap guys, but the fuel savings will win to be soooooo much cheaper in the end over a 3 speed indirect driven/always slipping TC of yesteryear.
just an opinion.take it for what its worth.just stop and think 3+ per gallon of fuel.
