with todays fuel prices,i don't see why anyone would start with a c6.
the E40D not only has OD but a locking torque converter.
it may cost more to rebuild and to swap guys, but the fuel savings will win to be soooooo much cheaper in the end over a 3 speed indirect driven/always slipping TC of yesteryear.
just an opinion.take it for what its worth.just stop and think 3+ per gallon of fuel.
I agree with that.
The E4OD can be made just as tough as any built C6, it just costs more to do so.
I agree, I wish I could put an E4OD in her but with money being tight I'm going to have to go with the old C6 for awhile.
Luckily I have a ricer that gets 31MPH so I can alternate the fuel cost.
My 6yr old Daughter is really riding me to get "ole' Ruby Sue" fixed...LOL!!!
She loves riding in that old truck...
See...I'm raising her right...

Same here. My truck is a work-only truck, any other time if it fits in my car I take the car. My last C6 4wd trans was 50 bucks and is supposed to only have 20k miles on it. I can't even dig up an E4OD computer for that price!
Cheaper to tear up a C6 plowing out our hilly farm driveways than it is to tear up an E4OD too. Takes about an hour to plow out the farm driveways and going back and forward 2 or 3 times a minute often. Got a big trans cooler up front but even with that my trans gets pretty warm. I love the simple reliability of a manual but it's somewhat a pain for plowing.
RCCrawler,
I imagine she does feel safer...so do I...
The ricer is mainly so we don't break down on the way to school, I still am trying to get Ole' RubySue to have my stamp of reliability

Lol you should see my brothers fight with whos going to ride in the truck with me. One of my brothers says it makes him feel more "American" lol.
my little girl calls it her "monser truck" lol. She always wants to go for a ride with me when i go on test drives and trips to the store. My wife thinks it is adorable, yeah my little baby has me wrapped. oh well. save up now, i already bought her a pony lol.
Well, coming home from picking up my rebuild kit, I decided to stop and talk to a guy who rebuilds transmissions. He said he'd build mine for $200. So I jumped on it. I like my hair (my head is egg-shaped...LOL)
now all I have to do is get the beast out from under the truck....
Yeah if its out of the truck, it is dirt cheap. There are a few places around the Vancouver Island area that do them for about 400. Considering everything is way more expensive here, that price sounds about right! haha. While it is out, put some thought into the transfer case as well. seals and the sort. A lot of times it is the forgotten part of a truck and takes a whoopin.
