Wow!That would be cool if that thing was still alive after all the abuse we put it through!!Ive never seen another one with the 77 style grill besides that one.Thats funny that you worked there.I have towed for Danbys in Meriden(5 min from R&M),for the last 5 years.Small world.
I have seen a few 78-79 bronco's (and F-trucks) with the earlier 70's grile and it does give it a different look. I especially like the ones that the grill is painted to match the rest of the vehicle or only the very outermost part of the grille is left chrome. Looks pretty sweet. But I am going with all rectangular light theme (headlights, lights on light bar, and bumper mounted - all rectangular) so I am keeping the stock grile, or a tubular grille, but painting it to match. I seen some stock grills that looked really good when the whole vehicle including grille was painted a deep metallic blue. I am also considering painting it to match my 99 f-150 thats metallic green. I have never painted metalic paints, are they any different? P.S. I change my vote to 78-96!
78 custom has the look down just right! Means a$$ looking truck with inocent round headlights.
And effieford maybe you should read 78bigbronco's post again he says mid to late 70's not 68-70. In 72 they got real weak and kept getting weaker for a while. I personnally own a 71 block with 68 (small chamber) heads and at a little over 10-1 comp this thing romps!
Being a new '96 owner, I have to say I like the 92-96, although I'm a sucker for just about any boxy-looking vehicle. I also like the older ones simply because they were easier to work on!
We recently gave away a '74 Bronco (302, MT, 55K original) because the rust took over and ate it. Plus with 3-5 other vehicles at any given time we just couldn't afford to restore it. (Our Ford-hating neighbor couldn't resist it and took it home. We will have him converted directly!)
personally i have allways liked the nose of the 80-86, it just looks like a bronco. My second favorite is the 92-96 because i own one then the 78-79 and lastly the 87-91 because i think the all out square look in the nose is kinda stupid.
I think I've figured it out! I think I don't like the 87-91's as much because of those wrap around headlights. It just bothers me how they don't go all the way down to the bottom of the grill. I think the reason I like the 78-86 is because the headlights are tucked in and it gives it a tougher look IMHO.
For pure ruggedness, the 78-79 has to take the cake in my opinion.
The 87-91 Broncos im sure run very well since I had an F-150 of this same year. I also had the 5.8 1984 F-150, and I swear, I got rid of that truck as soon as I could!
78-79 for looks, front axle, engine options.
It just looks so tough with that 70's Ford front end!
78/79 are the best looking bronco not only are they the best looking there are some many after market parts out there for those early years. ford screwed up with the IFS there should have keeped the straight axle......
Definitely 78'! Round headlights rule! 79 may have come with a bigger engine but all those exhaust restrictions. Besides how can you beat that classic styling it just looks mean.
