Sorry. I'm now working on a few churches and some other buildings in the Memphis area. I doubt the budget for a Bronco would be enough to lure me away from this job.
Good luck, though, and feel free to post, e-mail, or PM any questions.
79's. Period. They had great options, the biggest v-8 ever offered in a Bronco, the NP205, Solid Axles. The 80-96 Broncos were a compromise for all the sissy people who wanted a 4x4 but still wanted all their fancy B.S. their Lincolns had. I would bet that 95% of the people who bought new Broncos those years couldn't even tell you how to engage 4wd, much less tackle the great outdoors, but at least they looked like they could. Twin Traction Beam , Ok I guess, Aluminum Transfer cases? Aluminum is for soda cans. a 78-79 you could fit 33's stock, try that with 80-96 and you will be buying new fenders. Sorry for the stong opinions, I actually own the best looking Bronco, a 1966! Opinions are like A**holes, everbody's got one.
Broncoman... it's better to keep your mouth shut rather than open it and let everyone know you're a fool.
My '86 runs 33"s STOCK. No lift. My engine also has more power than a 400M. The 400M is a decent engine, but it had nowhere near the stock power any of the other engines did. Not to mention it's a capible wheeler and has comforts which only you could dream of.
I sugguest you learn more about what you're trying to tear down before you do again. Also, I sugguest that you become a true Ford-Man and love all Fords, no matter what their shape or size.
I do love Fords of all shapes and sizes,(Well maybe not Festiva's and Escorts) Yes, I do not have much in the way of comfort in a 66 (not even powersteering). I wasn't trying to start a war, I am just angry at Ford for building tought Bronco's, then weakening them, then quitting them. I don't think an Expedition is in the same class as a Bronco. Now if they could make a shorter wheel base two door machine based on the Excursion, take out the leather and carpet,(leave the A/C!) I would be excited!
Please don't call me a fool. I have owned Fords from 5 different decades, most of them 4x4's. I have the experience to back my opinions. But, they are just opinions.
Well I accept the fact that there is nothing even close to a Bronco anymore. But I was darned pissed when you started ripping on my specific year.
So, sorry
Well I suppose I will throw in my $.02 also. Not that it really matters, but from a 24 yr old ford nut I think:
#1 78-79 Looks the meanest & biggest
Not becuase I own one, I own it because I bought it for that reason. And although that 400 is a gas HOG it still has decent power, just not in the form u find nowadays (i.e horsepower). It has low end torque, and actually peaks out at a lower RPM than the 460 does. And you got to think in terms of the time periods. What was the 460 rated at in the mid/late 70's? Pretty dam low. I read that in some passcars it was well under 200hp.
#2 92-96 I think they are the 'coolest' looking ones.
#3 87-91 I think they looked tough, but not quite as tough as 78-79
#4 80-86 Looked boxy and plain. Not trying to put anyone down because its still a good ford, and I know several who own them. They guy I bought my 78 from kept his 85 instead of selling that instead. Good for me!

Yeah, so that's why you find a '68-'69-'70 429. High compression and rated at 360hp. That's what I have for my '78 and its getting closer to running.
I voted 78-79, just cause I have one. Its blue and silver, so I love the two tone paint. Plus its got the solid axle and FT 4WD t-case. They just look meaner.
I also have my '89. I don't get why so many people dislike the headlights and boxy look? I don't think it looks near as boxy as the '80-'86.
i dont quite know about the people who dissagree, but the best looking years for me is first 87-91
then 80-86
79-78
last- 92-96( i still like all broncs but i dislike the newest ones the most)
I own an '89. I do like the 92+ front end, but I really like the dash board of the 87-91 much more. Put the 92+ door panels on and it would be perfect.
yo,
Our 78 was a lean machine, if you include the engine compartment as far as "looks" go. Bare of a/c, pump; just iron (some rusty) and some wiring and a few hoses.
I saw a 78-9 in the town next to me with a 77 F-series grill and that was cool. I own a 93 but I like the square nose of the 80-86 better it just looks tuff all done up. As for power I've seen a Powerstroke in a latemodle Bronc, wish it was mine!
So I would vote 92-96 and 80-86 tie then 78-79 and 87-91 last. I never liked those noses and I owned an 88 and an 89 pickup.
TOWMAN,Is that Newington,Ct youre from?I used to have a 79 Bronco that I put a 77 grille on,cause I liked the look beter.Just wondering if that was my truck.I doubt its still running now.It was green, but the last time I saw it -it was black primer and all beat up.
My choices:#1 78-79 ( i think 73-79 full size was the best trucks Ford ever made)
i love the 78-79 look and power. i think the 80-86 look is the best. they just look rough as opposed to the later years where everything is rounded off and streamlined. in other words: they look "wine and cheese" while the older bronc's look " hammer and nails".
