Diesel Spray

Ironically, I drove my '94 truck to the SCRAP-YARD to recycle an old bed frame, & what looked like steam was rolling out from under the hood. When I popped her open I had diesel sprayed everywhere, even puddled in top of the air filter cover. Having just got off of work & damned near 100 degrees out, I parked her, came home & grabbed a cold beer & a computor. I got know clue where to start trouble- shooting. Anyone have this happen lately? Thanks.

Wow! I f you have fuel spraying everywher, it sounds like you may have cracked a high pressure fuel line. If it will start it would be a good idea to take someone along to start it while you watch - from a distance to see where it is coming from. Might be a good idea to have a fire extinguisher handy. Check to see if the clamps are on the IP lines to prevent vibrations. Fatigue will cause the lines to crack and 1600 to 1800 PSI will create a heck of a spray.

It could also be the fuel return line coming out of the top of the IP. The fan would then catch the fluid a throw it all over the engine.

Along with those mentioned it could be a loose filter, leaky schrader, leaky heating element, leaking lift pump to filter line, filter to IP.

Both are likely scenarios, you could try deactivating the glow plugs and cranking the motor to see where the fuel starts seeping from.

On a 94, even could be as simple as the filter drain valve open.

The fan would blow fuel everywhere while driving.
