I have a 97 right know, but im looking to get a new crew cab pickup and dont know if i want to go with the 7.3 in this year or the new one. So looking and for stuff like mpg, city, highway, towing, and tuning to help mpg and performance
My truck (in my sig) gets around 17 city and up to 22 highway running the edge on economy mode but i was told it got 13 city before the edge was put in by the PO. As for towing im not sure.
Mileage will vary depending on what configuration you buy (short bed/long bed, 2wd/4wd, etc), as well as your right foot. If you take it easy, mileage on the highway can be anywhere from 16-20 mpg, city a little less, and towing will depend on the load.
As for tuning, I prefer a flip chip over a programmer. That way you can switch tunes on the fly. Most common chips recommended are DP-Tuner, Power Hungry Performance, Diesel Innovations, Swamps, and Gearhead Automotive. I've personally run DP-Tuner and Power Hungry Performance chips on my truck, and both have worked well.

I had the same dilema when I bought mine, It came down to what I could afford to sepend. I thought I was going to end up with an OBS pre 99, but got lucky and got an E99 now I have a truck for life. Oh yeah, Any programmer is better than no programmer if the price is right, thats why I have an Edge i can't afford a DP tuner yet.
