Hey guys and gals hey with all this ran here in Middle TN I have had plenty of time to dream/plan the 56' SW truck I would like to build. These two pics are likely what my ride will look like when finished. My question to you all is CHROME or PAINTED grille?
I like the chrome but the cost is so high. The one I have at this time has a spider web look when you put it in the sun.A lot of the painted ones look pretty good.
Painted - While chrome is very nice and is what I have currently on my 56, when I get around to building it as I want, it will be painted stock colonial white. I am sure to be in the minority on this one.
The flat black truck you posted is how I was thinking of building my pickup when ever I finish my panel. My panel will have a painted grille, the pickup will likely get the beater chrome grille I have that was on the truck. I like both but voted paint to try and even things up Hope that don't screw things up for your decision
I like chrome better than paint, but the chrome is very expensive and it has to stay in a climate controlled garage or in a few years, depending on where you live, it will start to bubble.
Personally I like painted, a cream looks very sharp, I'm not a huge fan of body colored grilles though, but thats my prefference.
I dunno, to me a chrome grille just looks like too much chrome. There is a red '56 F350 about a mile from my house with a chrome grille, and it just seems, I dunno, too much. The cream colored grille on mine really made the truck look a whole lot different, it captures the 50s feel more than chrome does to me. It also makes the V8 emblem that I love so much stand out more, it gets lost on a chrome grille to me.
It's just my taste, end color might effect if chrome or painted would look better. But on a red truck, to me it's gotta be cream.

Stephen, my sentiments exactly! I prefer the cream (I think the original color was colonial white) grille.
But it is your truck, you can do with it what you want...
I think it depends on the color of the truck honestly.
But, I fully agree that body colored grill is too much. And, if you do chrome the grill, don't go crazy with the chrome and do every little thing chrome. Bumpers and mirrors should be sufficient. Chrome don't get you home. Black is where it's at.
Of course, I say that and my Truck (08 F350) is black on black. Only chrome is my stock rims and fender emblems.
I agree with Ford Fre@k. It is the color you are goign to be ending up with. I think if it is a darker color such as a Midnight blue, black, dark grey etc then Chrome for sure. But if you are using a brighter color such as a yellow, green, red, a well color selected bumper may enhance it more than chrome.
