I have a '79 F100 302 2bbl. One day, out of the blue, it wouldn't idle. Almost seemed like plug wires were crossed. The whole truck shakes violently, and the tach jumps from 1000rpms to 100rpms. But, then the next time I start it, it idles, and drives fine. Sometimes it's fine, and other times its bad.
Mine was doing stuff similar to that and i changed the ignition control module. Ever since i replaced that the truck runs great. They are only about $20.00 also, so its a cheap fix.
Are you saying that every time this happens, you're able to shut the truck off, and immediately restart it with the problem gone (until it returns again)?
Two weeks ago, it did it everytime. Last week it ran perfect. Yesterday, it acted up. I shut it off, and tried again. It was fine that second time. I drove two blocks to the gas station. When I started it to go home, it acted up. After about a minute of running rough, it fixed itself, and ran fine the rest of the night. Today, it was completely fine.
