getting some oil (i believe) in my radiator. pop the cap and it more resembles grease, but its turned my coolant milky. what are my chances that its the oil cooler and NOT the head gaskets?
well if you have heat issues and bubbling after you turn off the truck when it is hot then i vote headgasket, experience in that dept. I would let it get solid cold. Then start it up with the rad cap off. if it spews out and i mean it will spew, 99% head gasket. I hope not for you bro, i really hope not. That stinks like ****ty tundra drivers!!!
some bubbling after shut off, but i can fire it up with the cap off and no pressure release. i was thinking about sending out a sample of the black crap to see if its oil or possibly fuel. sucks! im gonna get my spare engine rebuilt soon. get that bi-tch ready to drop in. theres a million other things id rather do with the money, but.... crap happens
oh, and no heat issues at all. hell, i wish it would get a little hotter. it runs cool. always! even when im climbin 6% grade with 12k behind me, i cant get that bitch hot.
thermostat stuck open? might be gummed with some residue? I would rather a oil cooler rebuild over head gaskets any day but yeah you said it, life sucks sometimes. Wish the best for sure!!
nope, thought thats what it might have been so i replaced it, had my radiator boiled, tanks taken off and the rows cleared. they said the radiator was 90% blocked and it still wasnt gettin hot.
oh, and the crazy thing..... i ran a pressure test on my cooling system and it held for over an hour. i finally just took the tester off. and no coolant in the oil. its driving me nuts. oh, and no white smoke, no smell of coolant burning either
nope, gauge works. when i got the truck the clutch fan was junk. took it for a drive and it started getting hot even at highway speed, at about 60% of the gauge it shot right up so i shut it down, tested the clutch fan and seen what was going on so i replaced it.
was good after that....
you know how people say their cars give them gray hairs? well, i got em beat. my truck gave me my first gray nose hair! i almost cried when i seen it lol.
If your 50/50 on whether it's head gasket or oil cooler do the cooler orings first that would be the cheapest..... flush/clean out the cooling system again and see what happens.
i flush/cleaned the system three times. when i bought the truck the coolant looked like that. thats who i got the truck for 1500. told the kid its more then likely the head gasket and if he chose to fix it before he sold it he would make way less then what im offering him to take it then and there. i flushed the system twice, then did the whole radiator overhaul, thermostat, hoses, heater core flush ect, did a correct fill and its still goin on.
easy enough to repair? havent done one, this is my first diesel. had her for nearly a year now, had to replace/repair nearly everything else on it lol. ive got a spare idiT in my garage. imma look at that and see how it goes.
