New exhaust installed

I got it done today. It's a 2-1/2" dual exhaust to a big rig muffler and a single 3" out. The muffler does the balancing and it doesn't roar so the horses will still load. He said my exhaust was in HORRIBLE shape and he just torched everything off and started over. It sure seems to get up and go a whole lot quicker now.

I did notice a stream of blue smoke behind me when I first started out, but after the motor warmed up no more smoke. I never noticed it before because of the exhaust leaking all over the place. Is this common?

Only a couple pics so far...

I spoke with him about the pipe being on that metal there. He said he did that on purpose to hug it as close as possible and maintain ground clearance and there won't be any rubbing. Now I'm trying to figure out where the hell all that oil is coming from. I know my passenger valve cover is leaking and I'm replacing it. I'm not sure all of that is from the valve cover though. I'm thinking front and rear main seals.

Dual in - single out big rig muffler. He said it's the highest flowing muffler he has and it's not loud.

That was a mistake explained away ... IMO!

An exhaust system should touch nothing except hangars.

holy crap, are you gonna have to drop the whole setup to get at the flywheel inspection cover? Is it touching that thing? How about vibrations or sound? That thing touching is going to wear out the inspection cover and grind away at the exhaust. I would make him fix that. Overall looks good! I will say though that the oil hitting the pipe there is probably coming from the inspection cover meaning leak somewhere in/up there. Same thing i am losing sleep over right now haha.

I've been poking around under there and it appears to be in front of that inspection cover. He told me it was fine like that. I've never seen an exhaust installed touching part of the drivetrain.

Doesn't matter if he "thinks" it is good. You paid for it, he should fix it. When I do exhaust for people, if something goes wrong or it isn't right, I fix it. Don't settle. Can you remove the inspection cover???

often takes a bit of a strong arm approach to get muffler shops to do right by their work, just remind him sweetly that word of mouth will make or break his business

I'll be able to get the inspection cover off, but there might be enough tension on there it'll be a bear to get it back on. I would've been happy with 1/2 - 1" gap.

As for your oil leak also check the oil pressure switch up top by the CDR. Hot oil runs pretty good and coming from the switch would run down to where you're seeing it.

I wonder how much oil loss this and an unsealed dipstick tube could result inbetween oil changes?

I had to take my starter out just a couple weeks ago so I could see the dipstick tube and I think it was missing a seal. So I cleaned up up and used some ultra black as others have suggested and remated it. I had to solder a hole in mine, then I heat shrunk the area close to the manifold.

We put in a mechanical oil gage last year when we got our clunker. It started leaking soon after install with a kit that said to use teflon tape. That didn't work so I am actually going out today to take it apart, put a new old sender unit with a t and a new install on the mechanical gage with paste.

The old one was leaking when we got it as well.

If it's pipe thread and the teflon tape didn't seal, it wasn't done correctly.

Teflon tape works better than dope (paste), Especially with oily fittings.
