My 99 Ranger is getting tired, and starting to nickel and dime me. Been a great truck, but looking for something else now. Found an 04 F150 5.4l 4x4 FX4 on eBay close to me. Has 137000 though. If price is right, it may be a candidate. Wanting to know if anyone could tell me if there are any issues to look for in these models, known problems, etc. My Ranger had the pulse vacuum hub, and the tranny valve body problems. So looking for things like that. And how are these motors..the 5.4l. The 3.0 Vulcan in my Ranger has gotten great reviews, and still runs strong. Can I expect the same out of the 5.4 in the F150's?

I appreciate any feedback!
Well, the only known major issue on them is the spark plug issue. Do a search on this thread or yahoo and you will discover quickly what I am talking about. But if this one has 137,000 miles it should have had a set of plugs. I would try to find out when they were changed. Other than that if the motor has made it that long and is still running good and is still tight I would say it would be a good motor. An engine with that many miles might use a little oil, as long as it wasn't too much I think you would be fine. I think at that mileage a quart to the change useage wouldn't be out of the norm. If it is less than that well then great.
If your not in a rush look for 2004-2006 with a 4.6 I havent seen any issues with these yet on this site these truck only account for 20 percent of production gas milage and tork is pretty close to 5.4
