E4OD solenoid pack

So I was pricing the solenoid pack for my E4OD in case it turns out to be bad and I have to get new. Called parts stores like Napa, O'Reilly, AAP, etc and they all gave me prices in the $35 - $50 range. Called the stealership(I always do just to compare) and they said $423! Now I know everything they sell is a rip off but it appears to me that they are pricing me something different all together. Each time I requested a price for a "solenoid pack for an E4OD transmission on my 96 7.3L". Any ideas on the difference in parts I priced? I asked each place about the discrepency and had them check the part and each were sure that they were giving me a correct price. What exactly do I need to inquire about buying if my solenoid pack is indeed bad? Any difference between solenoid pack and block?

Dealerships have a tendancy to "group" stuff together. so there might be more to their purchase than from napa or what not.

I ran into that buying some trans parts from my M5OD. They said I could only buy the assembly, when you could damn well just buy the single part from them as well.
I told them I wanted 2 of the bushings, and they would only sell me 1, cause they figured out what I was doing. There are 2 bushings in there that guide the shifter, and they want to sell you the assembly for the lower one when you can just pull the shifter out and replace the other one.

Thats the problem with dealerships, they try and screw you on an assembly over overpriced parts, when you just need 1 part out of it.

I was hoping that was it. I've run into that before with those parts that you can "only get from Ford". So is it a single solenoid that normally gets replaced or the whole set? Is it mandatory to replace the block as well?

My 96 did the same thing if i read your pervious topic right. Mine was stuck in 3rd gear and had codes that was saying slipping internally etc. I started off by replacing the plug that goes into the pack, that didnt work, next i droped the pan and took out my pack and replaced it with a 95, and that didnt work. I inspected the prongs on booth packs and some if not all of the were broke off. I call napa and other local part stores and they told me that you have to go to the dealer for the pack. I started looking around and the cheapest i found was $230 through a trans shop. I bought it and it fixed my trans and the od light quit blinking. The ford dealer said blinking od light is bad wire conection or trans is over heating. I waslooking at the old packs and decided what the heck they are junk why not investigate how they come apart. the plug comes out of the pack but some sodering would have to be done to put a new one in but I dont know if you can just buy a new plug for the pack. I am not saying this is your problem but its what happened to me. Best of luck if you need a pack i mite be able to talk to that guy again and get another on for you.

Thanks Grizz. I'm gonna try some stuff and if it doesn't work I may get you to check on that cheaper pack for me.

E4OD Selenoid Pack

If any body is in need of a solenoid pack I can give you a good deal on one. I recently was trouble shooting a flashing over drive light on my 96 bronco & a faulty solenoid pack was one solution I came across so I replaced it but it turns out it was my torque converter slipping turns out I needed my transmission rebuilt, had 174,000. I had them also replace the solenoid pack for warranty reasons but I still have the one I replaced & used for less then a week.

Well start a new thread. It's not that hard. If you are a rookie user, take some time to learn how to post and ask questions. This is about the 5th time today I have seen new users just pick any old thread that's 5 years old or more and start asking questions. It's sort of like going into someone's house and just going through old photo albums. You just don't do it....so before you get put out over someone razzing you about it, learn forum etiquette and rules and then it won't be an issue. Welcome to FTE...it's really a good place. Other forums would have banned you and cussed you out with no forewarning, so be happy.

It shows he was searching at least (trying not to bother the self important members ). The one thing that many members tell "newbies " to do then gets slammed for actually doing it
