Looks to be a great auction. As usual, it's in the Midwest. Too far for me. Great Early Ford V8 collection, which includes a few 48-52 Ford trucks, even with a 52 F1 MH.
An article about the '40 delivery was in the first This Old Truck, now Vintage Truck, magazine I received. I always liked that truck and even emailed Mr. Stauffer a few times. He has a nice web site, http://staufferv8.com, restored mostly Ford tractors but had a lot of other toys.
Stu, you better bring your check book for this one
If I strike it rich between now and then I'll come along.
Ya know, I'd probably be money ahead to buy one already done. But I'm not smart enough to do that.
You mention Ron Stauffer's tractor specialization. Back when I had my 2N I considered buying one of his kits to make it a Funk V8 converstion. But never did, and it's just as well. I wonder too whether this might be a good auction for a guy to find an old Elenco 4x4 set up for an N series tractor. Stu

Stu, what is an Elenco 4x4 set up?
Stauffer, that is my last name, no relation. Maybe I should do a family tree search and maybe he is my long lost 2nd cousin or rich uncle!!!
I like that blue '53 F-100 and the M-H '51 or '52...
That is a great collection. Sure would like to go but that is a long drive if the prices got out of control. And in the condition most are in that could happen.

Good point. I have vacation on my mind ... physically walking between each vehicle, looking at the engine, asking my wife to come back in a few hours. lol. Didn't even recognize the virtual options.
Elenco is a company that did 4x4 conversions on 8N, Jubilee, and later Ford tractors. They made use of war surplus Dodge Power Wagon front axles and front wheels, and added their own designed transfer case and linkage. Today they are very sought after by tractor collectors. Below is a couple I saw at a show. At that same show I was wandering the swap meet field and found a partial Elenco system all rusted to heck spread out on a farm wagon. The seller wanted $1700 for the pieces, and it was missing the front axle. I passed. I later told the story to a friend and got tears. Seems like it was a deal. Today a fellow named Tony Jacobs from (IIRC) Massachusetts owns the right to the system.
Also, if anybody wonders what the story is on the grey tractor next to the 8N, it's a 9N that was custom done. It's got a later Ranger front axle, lock outs, with old "wide five" hubs and wheels. Nicely done, but not original. Stu
Hey, Stu, once in awhile even a blind hog finds a nut. I ran across a '59 841 with P/S and the Elenco conversion at a local farm sale here a couple months ago. It looks just like the one in your first picture above. It's rough around the edges and needs mucho TLC and a front axle overhaul, but it runs great and everything is there. It was one of those rare occasions where I was the only one at the sale who knew what he was really looking at. I bought it for - well, let's just say I didn't get hurt and had a grin on my face when I drove it on the trailer!
This one is definitely an RPU. My dad and I are Ford tractor nuts and I'd absolutely love to keep it and restore it. Like I told him, it's probably the only chance we'll ever have to own one - especially at this price. But we've both got enough car, truck, tractor, and construction projects going right now that we couldn't get to it for another decade and I don't have inside storage for it in the meantime. I rescued it from being either cut up for parts or further abused at the hands of another farmer who didn't understand its significance, and I'm going to find it a new owner that appreciates it for what it really is and will restore it to its former glory. I'm good with that. The part about being able to say I owned one and making a little profit to put into one of the other projects is icing on the cake.
