could someone tell me what size the speakers are in my 96 4 door. front doors and rear.so i could just order them without taking it apart for now
thanks john
just a thought for the old speakers... I watched on power block last week where you glue the old magnets from your speakers to a 8x8 cake pan and then glue felt to the bottom of the speaker magnets... vua la! huge magnetic parts pan for a few dollars... I bought my fiance some new pans so i could steal her old ones (got some suck up points) and new magnetic trays at the same time!!! just throwing it out there...
I thought so... way bigger pan and a stronger magnet... a magnetic parts pan that size could cost you $20-$30 or more! but $1 in glue and $1 in felt and your set!
I did put the felt on. It's optional but i put my part trays on the side of my tool box and the felt layer keeps it from scratching my tool box all up. I've also seen guys use chunks of old denim jeans instead of the felt...
I used a piece of cardboard inside to door and traced the actual hole opening amd cut it out with a razor... Then used that template at the audio store when buying speakers... Made fitting the speakers tons easier!!!! plus you can mark your bolt hole pattern and may get lucky enough to find speakers that have holes in the factor locations...
I did that and couldn't find a set the right size at the local store. So I'm going to ask the FTEs if they have a set of good stock speakers they took out. Either that or keep looking.

Its just a standard 6.5" speaker. Walmart pioneers fit just fine.I put them in my truck temporarily while I was waiting for mine to come in. Way better than stock. You will have to drill new mounting holes though. I doubt you will find a speaker that you wont have to drill new holes. I threw my perfectly good stockers away because I figured no one would want them.

yes you can... you re-drill the new speakers so the screws go in the factory holes.
86F150302: you might want to consider mounting component speakers. They will carry the base and highs better you just have to find a mounting location for the tweeters. and btw if you are planning on using better speakers you better replace the wires. Factory wires will not carry the sound like a good set of braided Monster wires or even copper platted generic wires... Ford OEM speaker wires are terrible!!!!!

sorry you guys were just making it seem way more complicated than it needed to be...
I'd also recommend putting a 10inx10in square of sound deadener like edead on the back side of your outside door skin. It will reduce road noise a little but will mostly help keep and vibrations down from the new speaker. You will also want to put a strip of foam or something between the door and the speaker to reduce vibration if the speaker doesn't come with that already...
