Max tow package was like 1,100 bucks. Didn't want to spend that much money for a little lower gear ratio. The other stuff it gives you, I didn't really need.
I was wondering on the exhaust. I like a mellow rumble, that duals give you, but I don't like the cat backs, because they are not true duals. If I am going to put dual tailpipes, I want to have true duals all the way through, with an H pipe in there.
Towing the 3000# boat should be no problem. Just did a 3000# flat front box trailer loaded to 3500# from Buffalo, NY to Indianapolis, IN then back to Rockaway, NJ with the 3:31 gears and 5.4 engine. Fuel mileage was 11.8 to 13.6 mpg with the trailer. Very easy to hit 80 mph and not even notice it. Much better than the 2006 with 3:55 gears and 5.4 engine. So far only getting 16.5 to 18.9 mpg without the trailer.
Normally I keep it to 5-10 over the posted limited. But after driving a Chevy Silverado company vehicle that at 70 feels like it is going to fail apart. Both F-150's with trailer tow packages feel like they have air ride and little to no wind noise. So the speed seems to creep up to 15-20 over very easily.
The '10 XLT does not have the same exhaust sound as the FX models. My '10 XLT needs a cat-back and will be getting one soon, not only to improve the excellent mpg I am getting but to give me the growl sound I had w/my '07 F150. I will be going with a single pipe cat-back, gibson has the best price I've found so far at $397 shipped. I had the Flowmax single Cat-back series 50 muffler on the '07 but the price on it is over $550.
The Max package is $1000 or so
But, it does give you the Extra engine cooler and trany cooler too.
Not sure if standard trailer pkg. includes these.
Guess I'll have to go look.
Just spec'd out Crewcab with all towing options included.
Hope the Dealer can come up with the rite numbers!

What are you basing this comparison between the XLT and FX exhaust on? I am fairly certain the exhaust is the same on all models but the Raptor and Harley. I haven't paid that much attention to an XLT's exhaust note, so maybe the fact that I have an FX4 is why I don't think the stock sound needs any help-if in fact this assumption is correct....
