Brother has an 06 Expedition in Fail Safe mode and had to coast into a parking lot. Sat there for a few minutes and it started back up, so they took it to the dealership and the dealer pulled a P2105 code which looks like a generic code saying that the vehicle went into "fail safe mode" (obvious right?). Dealerships wants $600 to replace the Throttle Body which they said is the cause. Does it sound right? Any way to determine this from a P2105 and no other codes?
I have an '06 as well and didn't realize how common this was to shut off like this...
Right, that's what the code can mean. When you get this code all it means is that the PCM is having trouble controlling the throttle body. If the TB is gummed up and sticking, then this code will be set. Of course it could be a bad TB but I'd try cleaning it first just because it's less expensive.
try cleaning it first. the tb is electronic on the 3v's, and i have seen my fair share of bad ones on the 3v's being that i work for ford. you can try to replace the tps, but no guarantee it's that. the updated tb comes with a tps as well. you should be able to change it out yourself, just fund the part. hope that helps
