Mirror question

Now, I have not tried to hard so this may be a dumb question. I am removing my stock mirrors as you see in my avatar and replacing with West Coast type mirrors.

What holds these mirrors on inside the door? Do I have to pull the interior panels off to get the mirrors off? Just want to check with you all before I work harder than I may have to. I'm lazy that way....

There's a captured nut inside the door. Should be flush with the sheet metal so you can probably just fill in the holes and paint over.

Not sure we are talking apples and apples. There are two torqs screws on the mirror holding it to the door. When I take those out, there is some type of bracket that goes into the door which I believe is attached to something inside the door. These are the little mirrors that come on these trucks not the towing type like you have. Don't know if that clears up or I don't understand? Let me know...

The bracket will stay in the door. Most times the lowers (if they are there ) are "squash nut" for lack of a better term ..

Still don't think we are talking the same mirror Action. I think I will just pull the door panel and see what is holding them on. I hate poping the panels because sooner or later I am going to break them....red is hard to come by....

The small mirrors like you've got have a support "arm" that attaches to the inside of the door - like right behind your door panel. You'll have to pull your door panels to get to it. It's an 8mm bolt and once it's loose, you'll pull the support arm thru a square opening in the outer door skin (you can't see it because it's covered by the mirror currently). On the larger west coast style mirrors, if they're the ones with the triangle on top with the 2 support legs going down, you'll use the exact same holes on top that your small mirrors did. Very easy to mount the bigger mirrors.

Thanks for the reps James and no problem on the help. I replaced the small mirrors for the large towing mirrors on 2 trucks now and they were cake. The other 2 I've done were the 2 point collapable mirrors to the big ones and you've got to drill all 4 holes and make sure everything is perfect or they'll be crooked.

With the mirrors your taking off having the same upper mount locations as the large ones, all you have to do is line up your bottom legs, drill those holes and bolt up. Good to go!

OIC. Not the mirrors I was thinking of. Those probably won't mount up as easily as I was describing.
