Question #1 Fuel Pump problem?

I have a 92 and it refuses to run off the front tank. Runs fine off the rear tank, but not the front. Funny thing is that I can "hear" the front tank fuel pump priming the fuel system (whirring sound, just like the sound from the rear tank pump) before I attempt to start, so the front tank fuel pump "appears" to be somewhat functional.

So, question is what ELSE could possibly be the problem (assuming the front tank pump is fine) causing the truck to not run when switched to the front tank? Could something be clogged between the front pump and the engine?

Thoughts?

Thanks. Jim B.

The only two things it could be is a pinched fuel line from the top of the tank to the "T" on the frame or a plugged up sock on the bottom of the pump.

But I will vote for a bad pump.

Bad Pump?

How can the pump be "bad" but still make the whirring sound?

BTW...

What is the name of the hard fuel lines that form the "T" near the mid-tank? The one line (of the three hard lines there held in by the white plastic clip) is rusty and pretty bad too. The two hard fuel lines right against the frame are OK, it's the third hard line (furthest from the frame) that's going bad. So, what is carried by that third line?

Thanks again...

Brake fluid to the rear wheels?

Nope...

The third line is definitely fuel related. Perhaps it's the vent for the two tanks? One end of this rusty line appears to go to a plastic T, one end of which goes to the top of the mid-tank. Check out the pics...

OK the 1992 vapor line is on the drivers side until it gets to the front tank and then it goes to the other side. Other years it was on the the other side of the truck all the way.

Awesome!

Thanks for the info.

Wonder if I can replace the rusty hard vapor line with plain-old rubber fuel line hose...

Could the problem that blue is experiencing be caused by a faulty selector valve?

A 94 does not have a selector valve.

Do you know what year was the last to use a selector valve?

The 1989 F-series gas and the 1990 E-series gas.
Of course all Diesels use them but they are motor operated.
