Compressor Clutch Removal Question

'96<nobr style="font-family: verdana,geneva,lucida,'lucida grande',arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" id="itxt_nobr_0_0"></nobr> Ranger Super 3.0L V6 5 speed; about 225K miles on chassis; about 150K on engine.

Removing the A/C compressor clutch due to squeaking/screeching. Compressor is still mounted to engine bracket. Got the small bolt, plate, washer, snap ring and pulley off without problems. Looks like the electromagnet and its housing remains.

Not sure how to remove this. Seems fixed and thought I'd ask before prying and hammering on it. Anyone know the best way to remove this? (don't have the replacement part yet)

They are just pushed on. I just pry them off. It isn't unheard of but very rarely do the magnets go out. Usually when the magnet is bad it will blow the associated fuse.

The only problem I'm having is the noise - squealing & screaching. Because I can make it screach whenever I turn the A/C on, focused on the clutch assy. A/C blows cold air. Think I'll clean what I have apart so far, lubricate and assemble & test.

What lubrication do you recommend? Thought about using synthetic wheel bearing grease.

The bearing is sealed you don't want any lube on anything else. Make sure you have a .010 air gap between the halfs of the clutch

right-don't lose the gap, when you pull off the clutch you'll see at least one small washer behind it, these are what keeps the air gap. with that kind of mileage why not just get a new clutch with new bearings, not that expensive
