Torqueshift and cooler (external filter install)

I recently installed a external transfilter on my 04, 6.0. It's on the return from the cooler, than to the rear of the tranny. I found that after getting the trans temp up tp 165 for 45 min. The filter and the line coming from the cooler were cold. The lines from the trans to the cooler were hot. I'm not a mech but I would think that the line from the cooler to the filter would be at least warm??? I called dieselsite and performed a test. He had me remove the rear line on the tranny and hold the line into a container to see how much fluid came out of the line. Well I got a shower from the rear of the transmission. (not pretty, but funny) He said if that happened that the bypass is stuck open cus there should be no fluid coming from there. Is there a check valve in the cooler or do I have a hydraulic lock some where in the system? Or any other thoughts?
