there are the 8 bolts then there are 2 more that hold the heat sheild to the back of the pump cover. you dodnt say waht year the truck is so its hard to awnser if the ipr needs to be removed. if its a cast iron pump cover then ipr and cover can be taken out together, if aluminum then the ipr must come out.
the ipr is removed with an ipr socket, or a 36 mm wrench.
ya that cover wont just pop off. its on there very well. I use a heel bar and a 4" long 1/2" extension to remove it. the extension goes in the drain hole and then lift up on it and the cover will come up.
Removed the ipr and the cover is loose. Thought I could get it off without removing the egr cooler, Is is possible to remove the HPOP cover without removing the egr cooler?
You're correct, but it sure isn't easy getting that cover past the egr cooler. Got the HPOP off and the STC fitting was bad shape. The hard plastic oring was shredded.
Thank you very much for all the help. I bought this truck with 220,000 miles and now has 256,000. I had an 03 duramax previously (x wife has it now) and the first time I felt the acceleration of the 6.0 powerstroke I had to have one. The stock powerstroke pulls my horse trailer and 32 ft fifth wheel with much better than than the stock duramax.
yes it is possible to remove the cover w/o removing anything but the turbo and pedistel on any truck that does not have the 03 style intake.
Cheezit, on an '03 does the intake manifold have to come off? I'm throwing another injector in mine today or tomorrow to fight a miss, but if it's HPOP problems causing it I'll be going in there with air pressure next to try and find a leak. Thanks.
Does Ford use the updated STC fitting like International with the solid fitting that has to be clocked properly before it is bolted to the branch tube?
I made a couple 15/16 wrenches for tightening that fitting jam-nut since the "special tool" came up missing. Its a tight fit.
Cheezit, do you have a fixture for clocking these on the bench? I have the new fitting (International Dealer $30, Ford Dealer $54) and the pump is placed in per instructions. I only have a 6 point crows foot and couldn't get that to fit the lock nut. I'll be waterjet cutting a couple 15/16 wrenches tomorrow to fit in that tight spot.
there should have been a black plastic (abs) thing in the kit. that is what is used to clock them. so yes I do have a few of them. its also 5 turns in.
