Thanks Jim! And Rick!
Sorry for hijacking this thread...
Not enough love to spread. =\
And Dan, while I somewhat agree with you.
The metal fails eventually. Ive got an add a leaf in mine, and the front sags.
I'm not worried about sagging in the back under a load, i can't get the springs in the back to bend at all. But then, I got 2 spring packs put together in the back thanks to a P/O.
Bushings are the most important part of the spring packs, Check those and keep an eye on stuff.
changing them isn't bad. just need some jacks and jack stands.
Throw the frame on the jack stand so you can get the axle down, dpending on 250 or 350.
and just unbolt the u-bolts, and personally, i would replace them, but thats me, and take out the spring pack, put in the new pack, and jack the axle back up under the pack and line up the centering pin, and put on the new bolts and torque.
I believe its like 80 lbs or 120, somewhere in there.
So when a spring wears out you're saying you can't fix it? The metal doesn't go anywhere. Why not? This shop here takes them all the way apart and puts them back together with new hardware and they are as good as new. I love the work he does. Any shop that has a lot of big trucks has a spring shop somewhere. Just look in the yellow pages.
I hate doing springs because my brother was helping me replace the front coils on my 65 mustang once and you can imagine what happened. I will always hate messing with springs after that.
That fender and my shoulder got kinda expensive.
What your talking about is fine.
they will torque down the pack properly and put on good hardware and bushings.
Re-curving just seems hit or miss.
