Hi, I have a 91 F350 with the NA 7.3. The motor has almost 400,000 miles on it and is getting very tired. Instead of rebuilding it, I want to swap a newer Powerstroke into it. I can get one from a wrecked 97 e350, the motor is complete, with harness and trans for $1000. I have a very good knowledge of automotive systems, etc. It should be a pretty straight forward swap, I'm just looking for any advice, or problems with the swap, wiring, cooling, etc, thanks
Since its from a van, you'll have to swap over some parts, like intake parts and stuff, and the exhaust return parts, other than that, I believe they are the same motor, Pull them both and get to swappin.
Don't forget to put in some new GP's and exhaust doughnuts when you have it off.
If you got some money to spend, drop in some stage 2's and an h2e while your at it. haha. =)
I have the wiring diagrams, from both trucks (ford, not chilton) so basically i just have to soldier and shrink wrap a few wires, and just run 2 dash harnes, one for the truck one for the motor. The rest should be nuts and bolts..
You should be able run the harness out of your pickup on the van engine, like i said, you gotta swap some parts out, cause they are not the same on the van. Located in different spots, or what not.
Oh my bad buddy. I though you said you were pulling a powerstroke, not an IDI. I guess I should have read it was a 91.
I'd post this over in the IDI forum as well.
You'll have to get some doner parts from a reg PS for the conversion.
