Hello, i recently bought a 94 F-250 with 133k and hope someone can help me out. While driving it home noticed that the brakes were "spongy". I proceeded to replace both rear wheel cylinders and shoes, front pads, master cylinder (3x) and power booster. Bled the system and the brakes are still spongy. Re adjusted the rears, had the system checked for any ABS codes, checked for leaks, bleed the system again, including the valve on the frame rail and the problem is still there. Any ideas?
The correct order for bleeding the brakes is right rear, left rear, RABS module, right front, left front.
I would think you still have air in the system.
-wheel cylinders and calipers have the bleeders on top
-the system was bled in the correct order
brake pedal continues to go to the floor. could the RABS have gone bad w/o throwing a code or the rear ABS? there is nothing left to replace but those 2 items, unless the master is bad. But the odds of 3 being bad is slim wouldnt you agree?
Yes the RABS module can go bad without a code.
Easy test. Unscrew the large hex bung from it (under spring pressure all the way) and remove the spring (no fluid will come out), replace the bung. Pump the pedal a few times to fill the chamber with fluid and test the brakes. If good then the RABS module is the problem, if no change then replace the spring and look elsewhere.
Well got it figured out. Took the truck down to have the system power bled, while doing so they found a wheel cylinder (one of the new ones) was sucking air back into the system (?) it was not leaking fluid though. Anyway replaced it and everything seems to be good to go. thanks for all the help!!
