loosen studs ( lug nuts, wheels nuts )

Any body already had some wheels studs getting loose ?, had this problem about a month ago on a gravel road, took me like 10 mile to notice that all my studs on one wheel were loose and my wheel was going out of balancement and was knocing hard on my studs deforming them and my wheel at the same time, wow ! , but by luck had no damage the the hub.. ! , put on the spare with my deformed studs to get the the closest city...

ok, now this week end, i had to travel a lot, but now that i'm aware of that problem, i just had to chek them evry stop and Tighten the studs that would have been loose, i hoped that my problem wouldn't come back but it wasnt the case, this time with nothing broken but it wasn't really securizing my mind....... believe me ... ! tighten the nuts and got home... Also, my studs where getting loose only on one wheel the 3 other one were find and still do find but had problem twice with the same wheel

I would really like to know how to fix this, i'm using the stock chrome and closed studs, about 2 or 3 inch long (The original one's ), and that i also read in my chilton repair manual that i should use 2 piece wheel nuts ( a flange and a nuts ), because 1 piece one are dangerous because they can loosen thmeselves, but why ford would still sell 1 piece wheel nuts as the remplacement part if they were dangerous ?, and also i tried some 2 piece wheel nut like these, but there were to big, they weren't fitting on the rim corectly... some one can help me ?

Also what the type of threads do i need for my wheel nuts on a ford f-250 4x4 1991 diesel

Guillaume Dubois, sorry again for my poor english if you dont understand something it's propably my fault so, ask what i tried to mean

The broken wheel Imageshack - img1292e.jpg

The alright wheel Imageshack - img1293tx.jpg

The type of wheel nuts i'm using but they are in steel chrome and the end is close http://titekusa.com/shop/images/TITEK_SPEED01.jpg

The type of the 2 piece wheel nuts i would like to try but did not find are the right size, and no need for them to be " Disc lock " http://www.hgvdirect.co.uk/catalog/p...-lock_info.pdf

Looks like you need a new wheel , check to make sure the studs or nuts arn't stripped , your using the acorn style nuts right ?? Check to make sure the lugs arn't bottoming out before the wheel is tight , or use open end lugs ....Lew

The studs are 9/16 inch diameter, SAE thread (also known as UNF). The lug nut takes a 11/16 inch socket wrench.

UNC UNF TPI threads per inch comparison study Have a read here.
Also go to rockauto.com where they will have the lug bolts and nuts for your truck. You can choose French and German for language and they do ship overseas.
