I have a c6 transmission. i was replacing the filter and pan gasket today and when i dropped the pan, there was a piece of metal that had broken off the bolt that goes through the neutral safety switch. What is this part called and what is it's function? please help!!!!
By "bolt that goes through the neutral safety switch", do you mean through the center?
Look for a long metal rod (probably yellow in color) coming from the carburetor and going into the side of the transmission. This is the kickdown rod that makes your transmission downshift when you mash the pedal.
See if the rod can be pulled out of the transmission by hand. If it is, that might be what you've found, is part of what held the kickdown rod in. Mine can be pulled clean out of my truck's C6....and surprisingly it still works, as I found out by accident! lol
YES!!! right through the center of the neutral safety switch. the bolt that is still in the hole has threads on it but has been hidden until today when i saw it and pushed it out. is the kickdown rod supposed to mount to the bolt that is in the center of the neutral switch? the piece of metal i found is a 90 degree elbow that broke off inside the transmission. im assuming it has been like that since i bought the truck two years ago.
thanks 79F, that's a great diagram, i searched and searched but this is by far the best. and that part that broke off is (991-1) on the diagram. I really appreciate the help both you guys have given me.
