I just got my 79 F150 Custom 4x4 back on the road after a short time in the shop. Got in got it running and was turning the heat on moving the lever from off to the heater position. The lever move slightly then flew right over with out any resistance or feelin of moving anything. I then noticed a small round piece of plastic that had fallen to the floor that had a clip on one side of it.
I moved the lever back and forth and nothing. My temp control above it seems to work fine I can feel it opening and closing the water vavle. The fan doesnt spin up because I believe the main control was stuck in the off position when It broke as I was trying to cut it on. Question does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Where I can get the part? I have looked locally and no dice. Any info would be greatly appreciated..... ITs cold here in Georgia and I dont want to freeze while driving it:-)
Those controls go on eBay sometimes. Otherwise the scrapyard is the only thing I can think of. Those controls were in many vehicles. Maybe somebody here has an idea on what years and vehicles cross over.
Pull the heater control. That clip may have just come off of the linkage or it may have broken. You won't know for sure until you look. Even if it is broke, you may be able to jury-rig it until you get a replacement to keep from freezing. (shivers and turns blue)

Thanks for the info.. I did find out today that you can still get the Vaccum Heater/Ac switch through the Ford Deal for 110.00. I got one at a used auto yard. That got me back on the road.
I just purchased a replacement 'vacumm selector valve assy' for my '78 150 from http://www.dennis-carpenter.com. The price was $50. You will need to remove your old one first to see how many vacuum outlets are on the valve. My truck has the original factory air and the valve has 8 outlets, but yours may be different. They have several different valves available, but I think that if you will match the number of outlets it will work ok. The problem I had was the valve was leaking.
