Decking a 5.4L
I have a 98 Econoline 250 that had a spun rod. I bought the van like this and i am rebuilding the 5.4L. I bought the van to be my tow rig for my 65 f100 drag truck.
i have PI heads and cams, and new pi pistons. the pistons sit in the bore .120 and when i put one in and brought it to tdc it was at .130.
.120 my compression will be 9.0:1
.130 it will be 8.8:1
it will cost me 120 to have the blocked decked. i would really like to increase quench and copression for fuel efficiency and power. i live in Oklahoma and have 87 89 and 91 available. i would like to run the limit of 87 or limit of 89.
what compression ratio should i shoot for?
could i run 87 with 9.7:1? 9.5:1?

well i guess im in un-charted waters here...
i dropped it off to have .040 off the deck and we will see how the cam timing does. if it is too much they make thicker head gaskets that will bring it back to factory specs.
