I will finally be able to pick up my new to me 2001 F250 tomorrow, it has 305 70 16 Nitto Grapplers on Eagle rims currently, however I will also have the stock rims coming to me as well. Since I'll be doing some decent highway miles on this rig, I am thinking the Nittos might get old pretty quick as far as feel and mileage goes. Am I thinking about this correctly?
For me, higway mileage, feel and stability are going to be big on my priority lists, looks of course count and I do need some solid mud traction for the dirt roads of northern New England.
I was originally thinking of 285 75 16 on stock rims but then started thinking too much and began considering 265 75 16s instead. I was looking at Duratracs, Firestone Destinations, BFG TA KOs and General Grappler AT2s.
Obviously you guys have much more experience with these trucks than I do at this point, so could you help a guy out (yes I have read as much as I can through searches......hence the analysis paralysis.....)?
Congrats on your new truck.
I am on my 2nd set of 305 Nitto's and have been happy with them. Good on the highway and off road. I wouldnt ever go back to 265's.
I have used Pro Comp AT's in the past and loved the ride, and they are a good light duty ("D" rated) tire. I needed some weight carrying ("E" rated) and went with the Duratracs in a 315/75R16. It's one of a few non-MT treads I found with an "E" rating in that size. Your size should be much easier to fit for what ever you want for your application. I have put about 600 miles (about 450 hi-way) on these Duratracs, and so far I like the ride and the road noise is really low IMO. I would recommend them based on what I researched about them, and on my own 600 miles thus far.
