91 with 302 coming home today, i pulled out in to traffic and had to get into it a bit when i let off it didn't. scared? oh yea! jammed the pedal to the floor a couple of times and it let loose. is there an easy fix that i should look for? this was the first time it had happened so now i am worried about the next time. thanks for any input.
1991 ford Bronco silver anniversary with 93k miles ; 302 ; all stock except for dual exhaust. thanks!
For me, I had the same experience, TWICE! Fist time I panicked and jabbed the throttle a coupl times and it came free. Took it home and went over everything looking for a reason, but found nothing.
Second time, it happened I hit the ignition and turned it off. Luckily I was not in traffic. I hit the ignition to fire it up and it went WOT! So I turned it off again. I was stumped, til I looked down and it was my floor mat slid forward and locking the pedal down when you floored it. Pulled it back and all was normal. Put some locking clips on the mats so it won't happen again.
DeKuma beat me to it. I've had the same thing happen several times, and that's what it was.
Also, look at the hard plastic tube inside the coil spring at the end of the cable where it's connected to the throttle linkage. They sometimes break & jam the throttle.
I've got a similar problem, the pedal is loose and wiggles left and right. Am I missing a spacer or something? Just got the Bronc so I'm new to everything. Thanks for the help.
Willing to put my money on the floor mat also. I crippled an RX-7 2 months ago by ramming into his rear end taking off from a red light lol......... Floor mat was the cause of the accident Poor Tree Hugger was absolutely pissed while I was laughing. Slightly dented my license plate Smashed in his entire rear........
First was chasin' a few teens in a camaro down on my property with some other neighbors helpin. Made me look like a total a**. I had to throw her in N and kill the ignition.
Second time was trying to get out of a Blockbuster parking lot. Road was wet and I was backing out. I gave her a lil too much gas and when I didn't stop I floored the brake and threw it in N again.
I was a bit scared by the last one being in a parking lot with several cars and pedestrians. I always move my floor mats towards the seat right after I get in the bronc now so it don't happen again!
it could have been the floor mat i am not sure. your feet start moving so quick to try to kept from killing someone i didn't have a chance to look down. but i will keep that in mind. i will also take a look at the linkage to see what that looks like. thank you for all the feedback and suggestions.
So those little clips I bought to stop this problem with floor mats, really suck! It happened again today as I was backing out of the driveway, my foot slipped and I gave it too much gas and it went WOT. At least I knew what to do this time!
