I have 3 wide pinstripes 1" each that go across the whole bottom of my jeep. What is the best way to remove these? i tried a razor blade but i keep having them brake. would it help to heat the pinstrip first? what is a good method? I dont care about the paint but i dont want to take it all off.
<p>Also does anyone know any good sites on painting-- (preparing, gun use....) I will be soon painting and i can use all the tips i can get.

Yeah heating will help. Im not sure what kind of tools you have but they make a Vinyl graphic remover, fits on a cutoff tool, basically a big eraser that spins.. No paint damage or anything of that nature.. no glue residue either. But heat will work till it starts to crinkle then just pull back.
As far as sites go I dont have my shops up yet. Was thinking about putting one togther with painting tips. In the mean time if you have questions... send a private msg to me and ill give you my email or if you find any sites with tips Please do share.
this is the best site i've found so far. I did have a real nice site but my computer god screwed up and it got deleted. I dont remember what that site was called but it was written by a guy who explained everything in detal and in non technical terms. Real easy to understand. thanks for the help if i run into any problems i will let you know but i'll mix up a batch and see how it works first.
3M makes a product for this very purpose. Spray on wait then scrape off with a plastic squeegee. You should not use a razor blade. This will gouge the paint. All those gouges need to be repaired. Even if you are replacing the strips or putting on rock gaurd you still need to fix the gouges.
ok thanks for the help but i dont care about gouges, i used a razor blade and sanded off the remaining crap and feather edged the gouges which i only had a few. the blade worked fairly well as long as i heated it first throughly with the hair dryer. its going to be painted/primed now so thanks for the help
let me know if anyone has any tips for painting i will be testing my knowledge tonight with a first coat of dupont acrylic enamel.
also how long should i wait after i put the first coat of enamel on to put on the second?
where is your painting how to? i just tried to put on a 1st coat. i used the hvlp tip and it seemed to clog up a bit sometimes and i would have to play with the pressure and adjustments to get it right. Also when the paint went on, it seemed like it went on in tiny blobs and if you shine the light at a certain angle it almost looks like fish scales in some places. I played I also have the regular conventional tip for my gun if i should use that?
i screwed up in a few places where once i leaned against the body and it made a mark about the size of a quarter, what grit sandpaper should i use to get that out?
