Transmission compatibility?

i am going to put a 351w in a 66 f100 and i was wondering what are my choices for tranny's? the truck has a 300 ci straight six in it and a four speed manual and i wouldn't mind keeping that tranny if possible. any advice would be amazing.
thank you,
Seth

Seth, You will need a st. dr. setup bell for your W that should bolt to your tranny. You might try installing it on the same engine perches, but have a set from a 302 ready to use if needed.

300 has same bell as 351w.all you should need is a flywheel.the 300 flywheel fits but has different balance.

so i found out the the 4 speed isnt actually stock. the truck came with 3 on the tree. but now it has a 4 speed manual, so does only needing a flywheel still apply?

300, 302, 351w and the "real" 351c all use the same bell housing bolt pat.

Oh okay sweet im glad i asked cause i was going to get a transmission from pick and pull and re build it so i could use the motor but just needing a flywheel will save me like 300 buck which is always nice. does anybody know any good sites to get a decent inexpensive flywheel?

What year is the 351W engine?

You can't install any 'ol 351W flywheel, because the balance may be different.

1969/79 uses the same flywheel (D7TZ6375C [replaced C6TZ6375C]). 1980 and later is different (E8TZ6375C [replaced EOTZ6375B).

Make sure when you install these parts, you record what year/vehicle they came from.

1970's vintage: From a Passenger Car or 1975/79 Econoline. No 351W's in F Series trucks or Bronco's until 1981.

D7TZ6375C (replaced C6TZ6375C) .. Flywheel / Obsolete

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

E8TZ6375C is obsolete, but I found 79 of them NOS (New Old Stock), 76 are at Ford Dealers (none in CA), one obsolete parts vendor in OH has 3.

But...the last MSRP was a whooping $393.40 (!). Dealer net cost was $236.04.

I dunno what the dealers will want for it. You may be able to buy it at dealer net, or maybe not.

so basically i would have to get one of those? even with all of the people building performance 351w's these days there is no less expensive aftermarket ones or anything like that? its starting to seem ridiculous that flywheels are impossible to find.
