i got a 90' f150 5.0 2wd with an AOD trans. idleing in park the truck is ok but once the truck is put in any gear the motor and trans shakes side to side. once the brakes is let off as your trying to take off the truck shakes violently. once you get the truck over 45mph it seems to smooth out but if you try to accelerate at any point it shakes.
ive replaced u joints and checked motor mounts and trans mount. ive been told that it doesnt sound like its the torque converter but im not a trans guy at all so i have no clue.
one thing i did notice while the drive shaft was out was the shaft coming out of the trans has some play in it but was told that the yoke is what keeps it still and the the shaft is going to have side to side play.
what in the world could be going on? im at a loss.
Check those engine mounts again, mines are broken, and you have to look real hard at them to notice (i'll be replacing them and the tranny's next week). The shaft and u-joints usually won't make the truck vibrate when it is stopped, even if a speed is engaged. The last thing i can think of is the converter... Maybe you could also have a look at the flexplate?.
