Something I've Noticed

In the FTE 09-10 F-150 forum "you" just don't have the same discussions that you have in this one. I really haven't noticed many people talking about what readings this, that or the other should be, or really how to fix even the smallest thing. Now I don't go in there as often as I do here, I'll admit to that, but I had posted about what PIDs to monitor and what their values should be, along with what would be good filters and oil to do changes with etc(I didn't know if I should follow the same rules of thumb as I do for the 6.0 as these are different animals), however, I got very little in the response with regard to the "consumables" and I got zero responses about the PID values. I had to get that from another source, which I am grateful for.

I just find it surpising how radically different people are from one forum to the next on the same website. I don't know if the people that own the F-150s just have a different mindset this us crazy glowpluggers or what. Just an observation I thought I would share. Now if I could just find some pdfs on the 2010 5.4 F-150 like we have floating around for the 6.0. That's some good stuff right there.

Nope...I think you have a valid observation.

To carry it a step further, the Super Duty forum is about as close to a mirror site that you can get compared to this site, except this one is for the 6.0 diesel. Exact same truck, just a different engine, so you would expect to get the same response rates when posing questions.

However, I have asked many questions there that received no response (or poor ones) that became vary informative when posted here.

I think the guys here are more into their trucks...like hot rodders...and don't have a problem helping out others, whereas the Super Duty site is more akin to your average person just driving their trucks who occassionaly needs some answers to a problem.

Both sites have their merits, but this one is more "detailed", and digs deeper, than the others.

Or maybe it just points out to just how GOOD the F150's are?????

Well part of it is that emissions and gas engines have been around together longer than diesels, we just started the challenge of shaking hands with emissions, and everyone is not enjoying it, so we resort to the forums. Thats how I feel about it...

Diesels are a special

Well in all honesty, I don't know if they have the 5.4 equilivant, but we had the 6.0 bible, then I think we had 3 different "coffee table" pdf files roaming around. Intake manifold removal pdf. A couple of Turbo tech pdf files as well(now I know that isn't going to be available).

I guess I'm just wanting to try to get ahold of the in depth pdf files that would help me work on this engine, enhance my knowledge of it, and/or make it better.

I just don't see that type of information floating around in that forum like I do in this one.

I just have 14 pdf files related to the 6.0, but only half of that with regard to the 2010 5.4, none that specifically deal with engine componants and highly detailed like that of the 6.0 bible. Out of those 5-7 pdfs only one was really for "working" on the 5.4 as it was PIDs and their values.

I guess I'm one of those people that doesn't like knowing. Another reason why I'm such a pain in the ***.

That could be possible, but knowing limits helps you know were not to cross and/or if something is going south on you as well.

I would bet lots are daily drivers and most never intend on keeping their trucks for 200k not to mention the initial dollar figure to buy a 150 vs psd?

Most of the F150 trucks are driven as the daily driver instead of a car. The owners just want to get in and turn the key.

for the most part 5.4 dont have oil coolers so the temp is not as revalent. so far as normal trans temp I have no idea.
Ill do some digging around at the shop and see if I cant find a copy of the w/s on a disk.

Debbies truck is an 02 Supercrew 4x4 with a 5.4. Maintain it like the manual says and turn the key. Been a great truck for 135000 miles.

Boy I tell you, I really am ignorant on these engines. Buy my first gas burner and look what happens.

I appreciate that. I'm one of those that likes to have as much info as I can. I really don't like being one of those that goes to the shop and says: All I know is that it's making a funny noise and not driving quite right" or " the noise was there a second ago on the ride over here".

For the most part the F-150 gas burners are turn key trucks. I've had four 79,96,96,01, still have two 79,96. I never pop the hood unless I'm changing the oil or doing a tune up. I pop the hood on my 250 a least once a week just to check on things. Honestly I kinda miss the simplicity. But yesterday I put 6K lbs behind my 250 and quickly remembered why I bought a diesel.
