I am planning on putting some Warn Hubs on my SD today. Is is really as easy as it looks? One problem I have is that the driver side selector is stuck in the lock position. Can I remove it while it is locked and place the warn in as locked? Or do I have to try to turn it back to free. The reason that it is stuck is the O ring dry rotted and forced itself out between the selector and the hub wall. Not it is stuck there. I can try turning it back but it will probably break the selector.
It is as easy as it looks, around a 30min job for both sides, IIRC you need to get them to free. My passenger side was locked I used PB blaster and a big set of channel locks and was able to get it to free. Good Luck.
I got it to free and removed it and have the new Warn installed. The instructions call for a snap ring to be placed after the lock ring. It is called the axle retaining ring. I don't see a place to put this. Is this not needed? The directions say that it is not needed on 89 and newer F350 but mine is an 01 F250. I also posted this on another subforum so if anyone is reading it twice, I apologize. I just want to get it done right.
I plugged the line where it comes off the module behind the battery. I tried the air control on defrost, vent and A/C and then engaged the 4x4 and no problems with losing vaccum. Hopefully I did it right.
