Fuel Gauge Problems
A couple of weeks ago, I swapped engines from two 95 trucks .Then I started it and I noticed that the gauge said it was empty. So I poored some gas into the tank and it overflowed but stil it said it was empty . When I unplug the pigtail right above the rear axle, the gauge says it is full, but when I plug it back together it goes down to empty. Now someone has replaced the harness side of the connector. Im guessing the pump assembly was probably replaced too. except the two small wires are differant colors than the colors on the trucks harness. I am thinking, if I swapped the two smaller wires it will work right. With everthing so expensive these days. I dont want to burn something up. L I K E M E !

It is normal for the wire colors not to match from the harness colors to the fuel pump pigtail colors.
I would say the float has sunk and swapping wires is not going to help.
If the pump runs I would say it is wired right.
