A Fuel Injector Question
My '00 w/4.0 is getting a new set of upper and lower intake gaskets this weekend. As I pulled the mid-plate off that holds the injectors in place I noticed that a couple of the injectors are showing what looks like wear, or corrosion, on the face of the injector. I don't have any experience with injectors beyond freshening the O-Rings so I thought that I would ask if the injectors on these engines need to be replaced from time to time.
There were no drivability problems that I could tie directly to the injectors. The reason for the work was to correct oil leaks.
Anyway, any input on injector replacement would be appreciated.
Ron
Can you post a picture of the wear area that your concerned about, maybe that could help with the replacement need question.
If you do have to replace a couple of injectors, make sure the new ones impedance values, match the remaining old set, before you leave the parts store. You can measure the old & new injectors resistance with your DVOM, they should be between 12-16 ohms.
More thoughts for consideration.

After I got into the intake I found that there were three distinctly different brand injectors installed with impedence readings all over the board. one as low as 8 ohms and one as high as 20 with the rest spreadout in between. Since the truck is new to me and I don't want to be back into the intake anytime soon I just bought the new set and set it up with new gaskets from the head out. This way I know what has been done. The oil leak is stopped and the engine runs better than ever for us. We didn't really realise that it wasn't idling or accelerating smooth until I got it back together and took it for a drive. I don't regret spending the time or money.
Thanks.

Sounds like someone had been in there messing around & did a halfway injector job.
Bet the system appreciates the new injectors!!!!
Did you pull the B- battery cable, to wipe the computers memory, so it could begin building new fuel trim tables with the new fuel injectors in place & do the cold & warm idle relearn routine????
This could improve cold & warm idle & help with driveability problems & aid the computers fuel trim relearn cycle.
