I have 120k miles on my truck and recently had the trans serviced, fluid and exterior filter replaced. I had the first service done around 50k miles. Since the service it seems my temps have been higher than normal, creeping up to 165 unloaded and up to 180 loaded in town. It cools back down after about 5 mins of idling. Today's temps were 80 deg. I don't remember it doing this before. Is there something I need to check or have checked? The dip stick is just below the full hot mark and the fluid is clean, haven't had any shifting or any noticible problem with the trans ever. Is this normal or should I be worried? At what temp should I start to really worry?
The thermostat doesn't start to open until 165*. 180 is quite normal. According to our resident transmission engineer/expert you shouldn't worry until around 230* so you are quite fine.
