Next project - Replace both fuel tanks
I'm looking to replace both tanks and fuel pumps. I'd like a quality tank and fuel pump but do not want to break the bank. I'd like for this stuff to last a long time and I will eventually rebuild the engine but I won't beef it up too much (i.e. I don't think I'll ever rebuild it to the point where I'd need higher volume fuel pumps over stock).
Where (or what brand) do you recommend I get the tanks? How about the fuel pumps? I'm looking for something better than any ol' tank I see on eBay or the Auto Zone-type fuel pump. I aslo don't want to buy the Holley (or insert big, expensive name brand here) fuel pumps from Summit if there is another brand I can get away with that offers the same quality & reliability.
Thanks for your input.
I was in the same situation as you are now with my 1990 F150 just a couple of years ago. When I lowered the tanks, they were so rust damaged that I had to replace them thanks to all the salt we use here. I chose plastic tanks from MTS that will last longer than the rest of the vehicle.
In addition to a new pumps and sender units, I bought new metal straps to replace my rusted items. To attempt to extend their service, I painted all metal items with two coats of brush on bed liner. It seems to put down a nice looking black polyurethane coating that is very tough. The new items have been exposed to salt the last couple of winters. It still looks good.
You may also wish to consider replacing the rear tank with the larger one from a Bronco if your are looking for extra range.
Just a thought,

I painted everything in sight with chassis saver...
I removed the bed and did a lot of other work also just because it was soo easy with bed removed, you can see pics in my gallery of it.
