Hi all....1989 F150 351w 4x4....rear tank and straps are going to go this week, any suggestions on how to approach the job? Looks very simple, just wondering if I'm going to encounter something

the ring that holds the pump in has to be destroyed if using old pump.

you will need a new one.

i would replace the pump if it was my truck.

Somewhat familiar. I grew up in mid coast Maine in a small town just below Bangor on RT 1. Virginia is where I hang my hat now, but I'm really homesick.

Replace your pump and sending unit while you're in the tank. I was a cheapskate and made that mistake already.

IrishChef,

I was in the same situation as you are now with my 1990 F150 just a few months ago. The unfortunate part is that when I lowered the tank, it was so rust damaged that I had to replace the tank as well; thanks to all the salt we use here. I chose a plastic tank that will last longer than the rest of the vehicle.

In addition to a new pump and sender unit, I bought new metal straps to replace my rusted items. To attempt to extend their service, I painted all metal items with two coats of brush on bed liner. It seems to put down a nice looking black polyurethane coating that is very tough. This will be the new item's first exposure to salt coming up this winter.

Just a thought,
