Yeah they're E7's and they're restrictive on a 302 nevermind a larger motor. Thumper performance does CNC porting though I don't know if they require you do a core exchange to get the advertised price, best to contact them and see for yourself.
Well this is a Email from mike at thumper i got the other day with what i was looking for on my next engine buildup.
Keep the ported E7s and install the GT40 size valves.. the 165 AFRs WILL take a bit of the lowend away!! Or go to a set of GT40's
NOPE... I dont do flow sheets or dyno numbers!! sorry!!
I have a 93 ford F150 that I just converted to MASS air with a E4OD. I built a 347 about 3 years ago with home rebuilt home ported E7 heads, about 9.0 to 1 compression, running a explorer 5.0 camshaft, 1.7 roller rockers, long tubes, and a gasket matched stock 5.0 truck intake. I tried to get a combination that would give me the best low end concentrating to keep the best power below 3000rpms since its pretty rare to see anything over that very often in a truck. So anyways due to some poor machining work by the local guy I have some piston slap and I started building a new bottom end and this time I want to do it right and be done with it and I’m debating on my heads keeping in mind the low rpm range of the engine. So far the AFR 165 i really like but if I could do the same thing for less than half the cost …..anyways I would like your thoughts on this. Also do you have any dyno sheets or something that shows the off idle to the 4000 rpm range and your head flow numbers from .1 up to .5 on the intake and exhaust so I can punch them into the computer? As you know its not just about peak numbers.
It's strange that he would say that when some of the numbers you requested are on the very first link on that web page. Maybe he interpreted your question as asking if he would flowtest your heads.. who knows.
I think your right on that one. No guy that ports heads for a living isnt going to flow his heads for sales reasons and just to make sure all 8I/8E ports are flowing fairly close after you get done with the grinder or CNC
BTW.. in searching for 3rd party flow numbers on these heads I stumbled across a few threads on Mustang sites by guys looking for feedback on them, and the feedback was quite positive from guys that had actually used them, they said the heads produced a substantial power increase from the stock heads. There were a bunch of guys that shot them down suggesting you could have better heads for a little more $$, but then you can always buy a better part for just a little more.. so where do you draw the line.
A 347 built with a truck powerband... less peak HP and more low end TQ.. won't have any durability issues. The 5.0 truck intake is also better suited to this displacement than the 5.8 intake so that's one thing that doesn't have to be replaced. Besides the stroker kit itself this could be done relatively cheap, just need some better heads and a cam and possibly an upgrade on the MAF and injectors depending how much better the heads are. I'm think a set of CNC'd E7 from Thumper($600), Comp 35-320-8($300), and a 9:1 cast stroker kit($800) from strokerkits.com for a solid 330hp and 410TQ.
Paul. I finally went to that website and they have several different options under the 347 stroker kits.
the $810 option is :
Description SB FORD 302/347
Crankshaft 9-302-3400-5400-2123
Rods 2-ICR5400-927
Pistons HYPER FLAT
Comp. Ratio 58cc-11.0, 64cc-10.0, 70cc-9.6
is this the stroker kit that your suggesting?
