'86 F150 4x4 302 FI AOD. Leaving work, it died after running for around 30 seconds. Starter cranks but I noticed there was no longer any sound from the main electric fuel pump when key is turned to the 'on' position. Towed it home and hooked up the code reader which said "No Response".
Both in-tank pumps, main pump, and fuel reservoir were replaced about five months ago. This engine has the TFI-IV ignition system with distributor mounted ICM.
Since the fuel pump isn't running with key on, and the "No Response" message from the code reader, I assume it's probably a bad ICM. Questions about other possibilities. Could it be a bad starter relay even though the starter works? Or a bad coil? Would either of those cause the main fuel pump to not run and also cause the No Response message?
if the pump is not on than you should test for power at it. just because it new it could still be trash.
That is on my list of things to check. The current high pressure pump is actually the second one installed recently. The first one was a cheap version and only lasted a couple weeks. The Not Responding message from the computer shouldn't happen from a bad fuel pump. Guess I'll go down the list beginning at the starter relay.
