What is the trick in removing a COP? I need to replace number 8 COP and plug. After I remove the screw do I pull the COP off the spark plug or do I first unplug the connector and then pull off the plug? How does the connector release to unplug?
Thanks. I found the tab in the under the front lip of the COP and unplugged it. Then I removed the screw and it all came out clean. The only two problems I ran into were (1) difficulty getting the spark plug tool to release from the plug on the reinstall, and (2) dropping the COP screw into the engine.
Solved the plug problem by removing the new plug and reinstalling with a tool that did not have the plug holder insert. Got lucky with the dropped screw and fished it out. Anyway the X is running pretty good and the pending code is gone.
The old plug looked pretty good. I had the plugs changed at 100,000. I now have 165,000. Probably ought to start replacing all the plugs and COPS. Number 8 cylinder was probably the easy one.

I used two sockets when changing my plugs, one sparkplug socket with the rubber insert to remove the old plug. Then I used the same socket lightly pushed on the plug to start it but not pushed on enough to get stuck on the plug then I used a second socket with the rubber removed to tighten the plugs....
