D60 confusion..

Ok I know this is kinda O.T. for this form but I've seen it mentioned here before and I know a few of you guys have done it..

I've got an '85 F250 gasser. I'm not sure if that means I have a D44HD or D50 TTB? I haven't found a real definitive way to tell either yet. Is there an identifier on it somewhere? She's all greasy

I plan to do a D60 swap - are any parts of a D44HD/D50 TTB setup compatible with the D60?

Local junkyard has a D60 front end from a '90 F350. I haven't seen it yet but I guess it's missing the left/right spindles and the passenger axle. I think i read somewhere that the D44HD/D50TTB and D60 used all the same outters up until the ball joints in 91 on the D60 - is that right? It wouldn't be too bad if I could swap my outers over and only needed an axle...???

What's a D60 missing passenger axle and the outer spindles worth?

I think I'm going crazy here!

Thanks guys!

The lock hubs on a D44 are about the same size as the wheel hub, the D50 the Wheel hub is larger than the lock hub...

There are pictures in the 80-86 Forum stickies.

Thanks for the info. Though I must be blind though as I'm not seeing anything in the 80-86 stickies... I'll take a look when I get home though and see if I can figure out what it is.

Is it true that the D44HD/D50 and D60 outer are all the same?

So this would mean I have a D44HD right??

And so do I have some or none parts interchangeability with a D60???

Your rims and tires will bolt on directly. Axles are different, u joints are different, hubs are larger on a D60, as mentioned previously. Calipers and rotors I'm not sure on, I think the calipers will work on either, but nor certain, and can't tell you about the rotors at all.

You have a Dana 44. The 44 has a 3.5" diameter hub. The 50 and 60 have a
4" diameter hub. Unfortunately, none of your parts will interchange with a 60.

Few parts interchange between the 50 and 60. Wheel bearings, out to the locking hub are about it. Spindles are different, as I recall.

Thanks for all the info guys, it's all fairly clear now!

Are the warn locking hubs different too then? It would seem to me if D50/D60 hubs are larger than the locking hub and D44 is same size that it would be the same? Or is that some more parts I'll need to source?

If I get the local D60 I'll need spindles, hubs, drivers side axle and drag link/tie rods because some monkey bent them up somehow... This truck is getting expensive lol

Thanks!
