I just got a new dually axle but i am having troubles figuring out exactly what axle it is I was told the truck was a 77 f350 but im pretty sure it was a lil newer than that.
here is the truck it came from:
This truck is not from the 1970's, it's not a 1980/86 either.
This F350 is vintage 1987/91. The rear axle is prolly a Sterling 10.25.
Since I don't see the ID tag on the inspection cover (it would have attached by one of the bolts), look on the trucks Certification Label for the AXLE code, post what it is.
you should find the info you need on the drivers door jam. If you dont have the sticker there anymore then you can also use a vin number decoder to get the info needed.
Well the sticker was gone already but i did get the vin so now im trying to go from there I do know it is from a 1988 ford f350 that had a 460 with a automatic tranny and it was built in canada. The only problem is they have it narrowed down to 3 axles its either a Dana 60 , Sterling 10.25 or sterling 10.5
The bolts are domed on top maybe that is why they look round but they dont look to be rounded off any just really dirty
It's not a 10.5. As far as i know, they weren't put in 1 ton trucks until the newer bodied Super Duties came out in 99. I don't know what the Dana 60's look like, but It looks the exact same as the Sterling 10.25 in my 250.
I'm telling you for sure - it's a sterling 10.25". The 10.5" was not used until 1999 and a Dana axle would have a filler plug in the cover.
Sorry bout that Andym i didnt see that you had already said 10.25 but you are right it is a 10.25 drw but i guess i will have to wait till we get it in the shop to crack it open and find out what the gear ratio is
If you dont have the sticker there anymore then you can also use a vin number decoder to get the info needed.
All trucks 1948 thru today: The VIN does not contain the AXLE code. It's listed separately on the Rating Plate (1948/60), on the Warranty Plate (1961/80), on the Certification Label (1981 thru today).
No Dana 60 rear axles in F350's excepting some 1979 and later F350's with 4WD. Some 1980/85 F350's came with Dana 61-1 rear axles. Otherwise 1953/84 F350's came with Dana 70 rear axles.
The Sterling 10.25 was introduced in 1985.
Dana: 60's, 61's, 61-1's and 70's all look pretty much the same.
