anyone added parking assist to a excursion that didnt have it? if so how much wiring was it and how hard was it, is it even something good enough that would be worth adding in?
If you wanted a Ford OEM version it would be expensive and maybe not possible as all of the wiring may not be there for the switch in the dash, module, speaker and sensors. You can easily go aftermarket though. There are versions which install in the front and rear bumpers just like original equipment - also versions which can go on a license plate frame. Do a Google search on Parking Assist or Parking Sensors and you'll find quite a few offerings.
I am adding a rear view video parking assist system. The system will switch to a rear parking video on my LCD radio screen on the auxillary when I press the parking assist button. The parking assist button is the same as the OEM parking assist button on the dash (in the same grouping as the rear defrost and 4X4 switch but instead of the having the origianl button interface with the OEM parking assist sensors it will interface with my video system).
I'm just starting to purchase the components and put it all together, but he's right...for the same amount of money or less you could put together a better VISUAL system in lieau of a strictly OEM AUDIO system. The OEM parking assist system was cutting edge in 2000 but since then better technologies and capabilities have emerged that are cheaper.
ya you guys are right, im deffinatly gonna go with a backup video camera instead, seems like allot better idea and it will help me hitch up to trailers easier also. YEA!
