Cowl vent survey
Kai's thread on cowl vents has me curious about something -
How many guys (that have functional cowl vents) have trouble with water leaks through the vent and how many have had no trouble at all?
I'd like to have my vent functional (as I won't have air conditioning) but not if it's going to be a continual problem with leakage.
I can't give you any real world ice and snow data. I have pressure washed my truck many times with leaking noted. I have new rubber seal and adjusted for good fit. Tension spring adjusted snug so it stays shut. You can easily lok under thedash and see if you are getting good seal compression.
Its a true mark of the breed, having the vent openable.
I have gone thru restoring the seal, levers and brackets after a HACK put a dash hole and radio in that area.
Amazing how much better the wiper motor mounts on the stock dash bracket too.
No major seal problems, but I would worry more if there was carpeting instead of the rubber floor mat
Point is, there are side benefits to gettin' back the Vent!
'fenders (my jiggly buddy),
Other than when you're spray washing it, do you get any leaks?
Another 'fenders typo. It does NOT leak when I pressure wash. I see no reason why it should leak when closed with a good seal.
I also agree with cruiser. The vent is part of the charm of an F100. I hate irreversible changes to the body. I get queasy when when door handles and body seams start disappearing. My truck was hacked pretty bad when I got it or I would have less mods than I do. To each his own I guess. There are plenty of hacked trucks out there so the guys that want to radically modify have plenty of project material. The wild mods go out of style eventually though.

but it hasn't been out of the shop, in the rain in the last 1 1/2 years either.

You slay me. If it ever does actually get out into the elements, let me know if it leaks, eh.
In response to my Jiggly Buddy's sermon - Yah, I prefer primarily stock lines with minimal changes to body panels. I feel it would be a crime to seal it up and cover it over. Plus, without real air conditioning - I suspect there will be a lot of "air conditioning" to be had from having said vent open. I do plan to have carpetting so I really don't want something prone to leakage though.....
To respond to a recent question of yours - "634-5789" (Get it?, think about it)
So far, all responses to my question seem to indicate no great predisposition to leaking though, so that's encouraging. Keep the results coming.
Thanks,
My vent does leak, but to be honest I haven't tried too hard to adjust it properly since it was on the road - only excuse is laziness and other priorities. One of these days..........
On the other hand, I'd never close it up permanently. On those hot summer days that natural air does wonders for my disposition - and it moves a LOT of air!

I confess, I have no idea what the numbers mean nor your meaning of a "Jiggly Buddy" Drop me a PM if it's not fit for primetime.
Thanks
634-5789 is the name of a song featured on either BluesBrothrs1 or 2. Performed by the artist who's name escapes at the moment and Johnny Lang. It's probably the most catchy song ever written. It's one of those that when it comes on, you crank it way up and everyone starts singing at the top of their lungs. The performance in BB1 or 2 is a real hoot as well.
You'd have to see the performance in the movie to understand the joke.
It's one of my five favourite songs of all time.....

But, the old owner decided to tear off the door seals when he did the poor job repainting it... so every time I wash or am in rain, the doors leak
But, the way I see it, if I am going to have it professioanlly repainted, why bother putting in new seals if I will need to rip them out in a few years anyway
